In case you’re not privy to this beauty term, MLBB stands for “My Lips But Better.” Basically, it describes the shade that most closely matches your natural lip color.

“My Lips But Better” shades come in nude, brown, pink and peach hues, which enhance the natural color of your lips. MLBB lipsticks and liquid lippies can add a little polish to your everyday look.

Here are some of my favorite (tried-and-tested) MLBB lippies that have the power to elevate your look in just a few swipes:

1. Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lipstick in “Touch of Spice”

It’s my no. 1 favorite MLBB lippie! I love it so much, I’m on my third tube and I NEVER finish a whole lipstick tube! I also get a lot of compliments when I wear it. The shade is a deep terracotta with slight plum undertones and works well with my skin tone. The texture is creamy and the finish is matte but not drying.

2. Colourpop in “Calypso”

I am so impressed with the brand Colourpop for it’s quality and wallet-friendly prices. In my opinion, it’s the best liquid lippie in terms of pigment, texture and satin finish. It feels light on the lips and long-lasting too!

3. L’Oreal Color Riche Matte Browns in “Chocolate Rouge”

4. L’Oreal Color Riche Matte Browns in “Peachy Brown”

Both lippies are buildable—you can go light to opaque depending on your mood. Love the peachy tones!

5. MAC Cosmetics Matte in “Taupe”

This nude-ish brown lipstick is moisturizing and allows a smooth application. It comes through with a matte finish and is the perfect go-to lipstick.

6. Happy Skin Shut Up & Kiss Me Moisturizing Lippie  in “Honeymoon Glow”

This lippie is in every fashion and beauty junkie’s makeup bag! It’s the perfect no-makeup makeup look and the formulation is superb.

7. NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in “Cannes”

8. NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in “Stockholm”

NYX’s Soft Matte Lip Creams are very lightweight and apply easily on the lips. The sweet-smelling formula is soft and creamy when applied. After a few minutes, it will dry matte

9. Maybelline Powder Matte Lipstick in “Touch of Nude”

I think this lipstick works well with all skin tones (and budget!)

10. Tattoo Junkee Lip Paint in “Skinny Dip”

This has a very light, smudge-proof formula that smells just like cake. It’s the perfect pinky nude for when you’re feeling like wearing matching rosy eyeshadow and blush for a monochromatic look.

11. Makeup For Ever Rouge Artist Natural in “N39”

This is a mini lipstick that I got as a sample. I like the peachy sheen on my lips.

12. Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lipstick in “Clay Crush”

Super creamy texture with a matte finish! This affordable lipstick can serve as your new everyday go-to lippie for any occasion (and if you happen to lose it, at least it wont hurt your wallet).

13. Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lip Color in “Embrace”

I just recently bought this and it was such a delightful surprise since it was a drugstore find. It looks glossy when you apply it, but give it some time and it will dry down matte.

14. Rouge Dior Couture Color in “365 New World”

Drop dead gorgeous satin to matte look! The color is iridescent and adds a dynamic finish to your bare face.

15. Clinique Pop Lip Colour in “Bare Pop”

It’s weightless foruma and shimery velvet finish work best when you feel like spicing up your MLBB look

Tips to unlock your #MLBB shades:

Shop in person – Online makeup deals are tempting, but this is one product you want to try out in-person. Often, natural lip shades will appear like they’ll work for you in the tube, but look completely different once it’s on and against your skin tone. Once you find your MLBB Holy Grail then you can shop on the web, especially when it goes on sale! #hoard

Try it on when bare-faced

For a potential MLBB match, it’s best to test it when you have a clean, makeup-free face so you can see the natural tone of your complexion and whether the lip color is going to compliment you.

Swatch it (on your lips, not your arm!)

Trying on lipsticks and liquid lips at the beauty counter can be gross (sorry but it’s true) but the only way to find out the best color that compliments your skin tone is by wearing it on your lips and not on your arm or the back of your hand.

3 is the magic number!

I suggest buying at least 3 different MLBB hues: brown, pink and peach. Variety is key, ladies.

They say that red lipsticks make you feel more confident but MLBB’s enhance out your natural beauty!
