“Maison Epperson” | Decluttering Tips

Organizing clutter can be overwhelming.

Our minds, however, are exaggerating just a bit — the drama of letting go of stuff sets in way before we actually throw away an old magazine. Aminin!

Decluttering our space doesn’t have to be an arduous a process.

Decluttering at “Maison Epperson”. I’m happy to report that these piles were all sorted out and organized. Wala ng kalat! Yay!

Motivation = Inspiration

I believe that the key to get started in decluttering our space is not so much about the reason behind doing it (too psychological) but it’s about being inspired in creating an organized and beautiful living space.

Get started:

1. Find what fuels you. If you’re a visual person, look at decorating books or online design sites to inspire you (and give you tips too) on how you can makeover/create your space.

Mansion talaga ang peg? LOL

If you love music, put on your favorite tunes to get you going.

If you’re a goal setter, make a list on what needs to be done and start attacking the cluttered piles!

2. Wear something comfortable. To conquer your mess, you gotta dress the part. Cotton is best.

3. Start small or big. If you’re a detailed person, start decluttering small spaces. If you’re an overachiever, start in your closet! Haha!

4. Involve the family. It’s always good to have a support group. Make decluttering a fun activity for the whole family. I don’t clean the house but I’m good at managing people to do it for me (haha) so I make it fun for Aryanna by giving her a prize for each pile she tackles. Yes, I bribe Tom and my help too. No one can resist McDonald’s Sunday Fudge or Chowking’s Halo-Halo!

5. Stop procrastinating and get your butt in gear! Just do it!

Easy peasy:

1. Prepare boxes and garbage bags. I suggest to get big boxes for the “throw” pile and a medium sized box or bag for the “keep” pile. Walang dayaan sa portion na ‘to.
2. Take everything out, empty it into a pile. All of it. Choose to do this one section of your house at a time. May I suggest to start with the living room para obvious kaagad ang linis? Ang peg: may naganap na gratification agad, agad.

3. Sort them into two piles: keep and throw. Some suggests three piles which are keep, throw, and maybe. I tell you, tigilan na yang “maybe” dahil “keep” pa rin ang ending n’yan. The goal is to declutter, which means, ubusan ng kalat!
4. Clean, then put the keep pile back, organized. At this point, you should have more space and less stuff to put back in storage or inside your closet or on bookshelves. If not, niloloko nyo lang sarili n’yo.
5. Repeat. Go on to the next section and repeat the process of elimination. Kayo ang judge dito so pag walang na-eliminate, fired kayo! Haha!

The fruits of decluttering space:

I’m not big on cleaning as I’m allergic to dust. My help and sometimes Tom (he’s the man when it comes to cleanliness and organization), who does the cleaning and then I do what I do best: styling!

Organizing tip: Create vignettes in your bookshelves, consoles, coffee table, side table, and closet. It’s a fun and creative way of organizing your space.

After decluttering our home last weekend, it was time to put the “keep” pile back in order, stylishly. Below are bookshelf vignettes I created:

Add personality to your space. I love animal home accessories! They are scattered throughout our place.

We try to maximize our area with our limited space at home. Our bookshelves double as storage for my favorite shoes.

Decluttering your space can do wonders for your home and your spirit. Getting yourself organized is an easy way to boost your mood and reduce stress, and not to mention, you’ll also have an efficient system in place so you can relax and enjoy your living space!

Live Style!
