The Power of Chia Seeds

Have you heard about chia seeds? If not, let me introduce you to the small but amazing grains!

Scientifically known as salvia hispanica from the same desert plant, these tiny bits packed with the most concentrated omega-3 fatty acids were the staple food of civilizations from long ago like the Aztecs and the Mayans – the chia seeds! Yup! The same seeds that made the Ch-ch-ch-chia Pets famous!

My family and I have been reaping the chia seeds benefits since we discovered how they work from reading an article about it online. Si Tom na ang healthy-healthyan dot com!

Called the “super seed,” these teeny-weeny seeds have carbohydrates, protein, fiber, antioxidants, and calcium in the highest collectivity! No wonder there is no energy shortage at home! Healthy raw, no processing needed, tasteless, these minute power houses are great add-ons for the daily diet of kids and adults alike.

Since they’re flavorless, you can use them in a variety of ways. My daughter sprinkles them on top of her salad instead of other toppings. I place tiny containers of it around the house as healthy reminders for my husband and kids — it has become part of our condiment rack.

I sprinkle chia seeds in our pastas. They are tasteless but super packed with nutritional benefits!

Soak them in water for a gelatinous form that you can add to sauces as thickener. A tablespoonful of chia seeds can go a long, long way! It’s all you need for the day.

Soak chia seeds in water for 5 minutes. This gelatinous concoction lasts for 2-3 weeks inside the fridge.

Add them to your or your kids’ favorite juices.

The best thing about them? They make you feel full in a flash! Perfect for dieters.

Benefits of chia seeds:

1. Fiber, fiber, fiber!
2. Improves skin health
3. Strong teeth and bones
4. Great source of protein (Vegans, take note!)
5. Energy!
6. It is high on Omega-3 fatty acids
7. Lowers cholesterol, high blood and blood sugar after meals

Did you know? Chia seeds have 10 times more Omega 3 than salmon, 4 times more antioxidants than blueberry, 3 times more iron than spinach, 20% high quality protein, high levels of the natural anti-inflammatory omega 6, an assortment of naturally occuring vitamins and minerals, 5 times more calcium than milk, 15 times more magnesium than broccoli and 18 amino acids?

I have already stocked up on chia seeds and I’m sure after reading this blog post, ubusan ng seeds na yan sa Healthy Options!
