The weather outside may be frightful but inside my head, I’m dreaming of sunny skies, azure water, lush palm trees and a cocktail on hand somewhere in Palm Beach.
I’ve never been to Palm Beach, Florida, but I know it by heart through Slim Aarons’ books. I first came across the photographer’s tome ‘Once Upon A Time’ in 2003 through Amazon. I was drawn to the beautiful and grand cover. Since then, I’ve bought some of his books.
For someone who has worked from a very young age, the idea of jet setting around the world at a drop of a hat and simply doing fabulous things in fabulous places is alluring to me. To quote Slim Aarons, “Where else are you going to find the people who have the time and money to be anywhere they want to be? Where would you go?”
Having children, managing the house and my business make it challenging to find time to travel. Maybe when our children have grown up, Tom and I can proceed with our travel plans. For now, I’m happy looking at Slim Aarons’ images of an iconic time capsule of a bygone era.
Palm Beach through the lens of Slim Aarons:
Every hour is cocktail hour at Palm Beach!
According to Slim Aarons, “they used their pools as a kind of conference room and stage, showboating their assets, whether it was beachfront property, beautiful homes and even prettier girls. Business deals were brokered poolside, alliances made, feuds began and settled. ”

If I can’t be at Palm Beach, plates with palm trees will do for now. To quote Jim Rohn, “Be grateful for what you have, while in pursuit of what you want!”
Stay dry everyone!

Hi Jenni,
Slim Aaron’s books are indeed awesome. I’ve also read his book about Palm Beach and it was like I traveled to every place in Palm Beach through reading the book. West Palm Beach is a great place for young adults especially those who want to start their family. There are a lot of things to do, there are great schools, friendly society and fun activities suited for anyone especially children of any age. You would never go wrong choosing to spend with your family.
