Q: Hi Jenni! I just gave birth a few months ago. I gained a few pounds so a lot of my clothes don’t fit me anymore. I intend to shop and buy pieces that are classic and something that I can slim down into (or grow in, please God, NO! Haha). I need clothes that will flatter my post pregnancy body. I hope you could you give me a list of outfits that can make me look slimmer.

Jenni: First of all, congratulations on your baby! Kaloka! LIST talaga ang request mo! Haha! Anyway, I get this question all the time so it’s about time I answer it.

These tried and tested tips are not only for women with post pregnancy bodies but also for those who want to appear slimmer. Read on!

Go For Wrap Dresses

Dian Von Frustenberg

According to Designer Diane Von Furstenberg, who popularized the dress: “A wrap dress does exactly what it claims: It wraps you. And because it’s typically made of jersey fabric, it molds to your body, helping to sculpt it.”

Choose a V-neck (or an overlap) Top

Donna Karan

The neckline emphasizes on the length of your neck and giving the illusion of a looking leaner. An overlap top has the same concept as the wrap dress.

Say No To Pleats

Extra fabric and fussy details and unnecessary embellishments can make you look bulky. Stick with simple silhouettes. Personalize your look by using assorted accessories.

Go For Monochromatic

Stella McCartney

Black makes you seem more slender but going head to toe in any dark colors like navy, chocolate or gray can give you the same streamlined effect.

Keep Pant Hems Long

When it comes to pant hemlines, it should not be shorter than half an inch from the floor. A straight-leg cut gives the appearance of a lean, while boot-leg bottoms are flattering to those who have wide hips. Visit your tailor!

Pair High Heels With Pants

Stilettos make you stand straighter while lifting your butt and elongating your legs. Wear high heels with the same color as your trouser to create a long silhouette.

Wear Vertical Lines

Pinstripes are good optical illusion. They lengthen your frame because the eye naturally follows the line, making you appear taller and slimmer. But don’t overdo it. Best bets: Try a pin-striped pants paired with a shirt in a solid color.

Go Long

Irit Design

Layered chains that fall from mid-chest to your waist pull the eye downward, making you appear longer.

Hem Your Skirt to the Perfect Length

There are two ways to do this:  the hem of the skirt should fall just above or just below your knee, emphasizing the area between your thigh and calf. Mid-thigh skirts draw attention to the thickest part of your leg, while floor-grazing skirts can look frumpy. Slits in skirts can look flattering when placed on the side.

Choose Clothes That Fit Just Right

Stella McCartney

Baggy outfits only add volume, and too-tight pieces are can reveal unwanted bulges. Clothes should fit comfortably.
