The Oscars still reign as the most-watched award shows in the planet. Everyone I know was up at the crack of dawn just to watch it. Of course, I’m up early to check out the gowns on the Red Carpet.
My Oscar-inspired breakfast (I’m on a strict healthy diet otherwise, there will be Mimosas involved):
Actor Neil Patrick Harris who is best known for his TV roles as “Dr. Doogie Howser” and “Barney Stinson” is a veteran awards show host, having emceed both the Emmys and Tonys to rave reviews. He took on the Oscars for the first time and offered tiny one-liners. I think he was very nervous but I still hope he hosts the next one.
Now, on to the most important part of the Oscars, the gowns, haha! Well, at least for people in fashion:
The Red Carpet tone has been set with the appearance the Mother of Fashion Anna Wintour on the Red Carpet. She wore Oscar to the Oscars.
The Good:
Go big or go home! J freakin’ Lo in a frothy ballgown, ponytail and perfect makeup looks like a Hollywood dream! Game on!!!
I’m so glad Patricia Arquette won Best Supporting Actress! She is awesome and looked like a true Oscar winner in black and white!
How elegant is Julianne More in Chanel? A dress fit for an Oscar Best Actress winner!
The “Fifty Shades of Grey” star Dakota Johnson (daughter of Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith) looks ravishing in red! Love this Saint Laurent gown with the one-shoulder silver rope on her! Cue: Tom Jones’ “Sex Bomb”—hashtag TBT and LSS
I don’t know whether I should put Melanie Griffith in “The Good” or “The Bad” list. I think the dress is classic and flattering especially with the actress’ rocking physique (puts all the Hollywood starlets to shame) that it merits to be on “The Good” category but that overly plastic surgery face tho. Very bad. Anyway, she complements her daughter Dakota’s red number and props for sexy at 57!
Ang lupit ni Lupita! Lupita Nyong’o wore Calvin Klein. Clazz.
Cate the Great!!! I love the Cate Blanchette’s black lace dress by Margiela (designed by John Galliano) with the turquoise and diamond neckpiece from Tiffany’s! She never disappoints.
Reese Witherspoon looks like a winner in Tom Ford!
Oras mo na, Rita Ora!
Emma Stone is on her way to becoming an icon. She is one of those stars who exudes fun style beyond dresses and shoes. She is gold in Elie Saab!
Pretty & preggy. Keira Nightley is ethereal in Maison Valentino.
Fabulous at every age. Meryl Streep looking amaze in a tux!
Full-figured and flawless. Octavia Spencer is a vision in Tadashi gown.
Zoe Saldana is a bombshell!
Scarlet Johansen in gorgeous green and sporting this season’s statement necklace!
Nicole Kidman in Louis Vuitton. Never mind the annoying red-orange belt and the totally off clutch, the actress still looks stunning on the Red Carpet!
Kerry Washington looks perfect in peplum.
Marion Cotillard and Dior are forces to be reckoned with. If normal human beings wore this gown with a bum strap it would look weird but not on the French actress. She’s not human, she’s a goddess so it works! Aaaand isn’t her Red Carpet pose so perf?!! Ahhhhh!
Gwyneth Paltrow got the blush-colored memo from Anna Wintour. To be 40+ and faaaaab! That giant flower on the shoulder signals Spring and a return to excess! Check out those rouge danglers!
Laura Dern looking glamorous in an intense metallic Alberta Ferretti gown. The details are everything! I super love the hairstyle too! Women should embrace the sexy bangs (silip-mata, haha)!
Lady Gaga in Alaïa. Believe it or not the gargantuan gloves makes this outfit. Of course, only Gaga can get away with this. Oh, how awesome was her performance at the Oscars?!!
I’m just happy that Jennifer Aniston is not in black. Hollywood’s golden girl in gorgeous Versace!
Naomi Watts always looks great on the Red Carpet. This time, she wore an Armani. The texture spectacular and the black band on the side puts a sporty spin on eveningwear that only Giorgio Armani can pull off. Berry lips and tousled look effortlessly chic.
Rosamund Pike is literally blooming! Nung naghagis si god ng roses, guess who was front row! LOL! Seriously, red on Red Carpet is stunning! That scallop neckline is everything! The shoes are love!
Felicity Jones in Alexander McQueen looks like a modern day princess with fringe bangs.
Carmen Ejogo sparkles in a white spaghetti strap gown! Loving the wavy bob hairstyle and the pop of matte red lips. Shine on, girl!
Margot Robbie is the modern day goddess in black with a droopy (in a good way) V-neck gown! The red-orange lippy is always a showstopper!
Anna Kendrick looks fresh in Thakoon’s baby raspberry gown with bejeweled collar!
America Ferrera in a sea green chiffon number by the Duchess of Cambridge’s favorite designer, Jenny Packham.
Agata Trzebuchowska looks chic and age-appropriate in this navy gown!
Gone nude. Viola Davis never let’s us down with her gown choices!
Sienna Miller looks dynamite in textured black long gown! Pasabog din sa contour!!! LOL
Haute! Hot! Hawt! jessica Chastain sizzles in navy Givenchy! This gown hugs her curves beautifully!
Jennifer Hudson is sunshine on the Red Carpet! Doesn’t she look amazing?!!
Ohh-prah! An amazing dress on an amazing woman!
The Bad:
Solange Knowles is sporting the trend poloneck as seen during the NY and London Fashion Week. Why? Clearly, not all trends work even for the brightest stars. Insert: “See No Evil Monkey” emoji
Kelly Osbourne is a Red Carpet goth queen. So over this look.
I love Chloë Grace Moretz but I hate the dress! “Kukur” (kukurtinahin) couture!
Just looking at her makes me sad. Very sad. 🙁
The Couples:
Your Oscars 2015 host… Neil Patrick Harris (with husband David Burtka)
To be honest, I prefer the classic tuxedo suit for the Red Carpet but I must admit, Neil Patrick Harris gray number is quite refreshing. Push cart!
Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter’s honeymoon chic looks.
Adam Levein and Bahati Prinsoloo look happy, healthy and hot!
Faith Hill & Tim McGraw are style strong together!
Chrissy Teigen and John Legend look absolutely perfect!
The new power style couple: Oscar-winner Eddie Redmayne and wife Hannah Bagshawe
The Colorful Tuxedos:
David Oleyowo in Dolce and Gabbana. Marsala ba kamo?
Oscar winner and super cute Redmayne in navy tux. So now!
The lightest blue tux and the whitest shoes! Nag-iisa ka, Jared Leto!
The “buhat”:
I just love this!!! Funny girls Jennifer and Emma made everyone smile with their Red Carpet antics!
The brief:
Neil Patrick Harris really stripped down for the Oscars this year. The host re-enacted the now infamous scene from Birdman in which Michael Keaton gets locked outside a theater in Times Square wearing only his underwear.
The gowns, statement necklaces and colorful tuxedos are indications that details matter and more is more! The return of excess is upon us. Are you ready for another “Dynasty” era?
Finally, some parting words from Graham Moore who won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for “The Imitation Game”, and he used the win to give a powerful speech about suicide awareness and depression:
“I tried to commit suicide at 16 and now I’m standing here,” he said. “I would like for this moment to be for that kid out there who feels like she doesn’t fit in anywhere. You do. Stay weird. Stay different, and then when it’s your turn and you are standing on this stage please pass the same message along.”
