Oh-reo (because it’s oh so good!) Smoothie

I do a lot of food fake-overs for my children to get them eat healthy. Like most kids, they will choose chocolates over chia seeds and that’s normal. I just try to be creative in giving them a balanced meal and in the process I too eat healthy.

Here’s an easy, quick and oh so good smoothie perfect for breakfast or snacks:

Oh-reo Smoothie

Gadget: The good ‘ol blender

This blender is one of Tom’s first appliances when he was still a bachelor!! It’s more than 20 years old and it still works. I believe we’ve changed the blades twice. It’s already on the brink of falling a part. I think it’s time for a new one. Any suggestions?

Ingredients:

1/2 frozen banana, cut in slices
1/4 cup vanilla Greek yogurt (I used homemade yogurt)
1/2 teaspoon agave or honey (optional)
1 tbsp chia seeds
1 or 2 Oreo cookies
2-3 ice cubes (optional)

Easy peasy:

Step 1: Blend the ice cubes, frozen banana, yogurt and agave to your blender and blend until smooth.

Step 2: Add in the Oreo and blend for a few seconds until it is chopped and mixed through.

Step 3: Add the chia seeds and blend for a few seconds

Healthy smoothies taste better when served in a fancy glass. For kids, use a colorful tumbler with a straw.

Step 4: Pour mixture in a glass and serve with a smile. 🙂

The taste is more like a banana shake with a hint of Oreo goodness. I only used one Oreo cookie for this recipe for less calories but I suggest that if you’re making it the first time, use two cookies.

Tip for parents: Let your kids help you in preparing the smoothie. The delicious results will leave them excited to make it again. It also makes eating at the dining table harmonious during meal time.
