My New Weight Loss Breakfast Protein Shake

jenni Food 2 Comments

I hope everyone had a peaceful and relaxing Holy Week.

My penance this year is to stick to my diet and exercise. I’ve crucified some of my fats already and hopefully my bones with resurrect soon (sorry for the puns).

One thing I’ve been consistent about is drinking my protein shake for breakfast. I’ve been drinking smoothies (recipe here) for over a month and I made a new recipe to change things up. It’s yummy and filling!

Banana Peanut Butter Protein Shake

Ingredients:

1 whole frozen banana (peel the banana before freezing)
1 tbsp. peanut butter
2 tbsp. or 1 scoop (I used the scoop that came with the powder) whey powder protein, unsweetened vanilla or strawberry flavor
2 tbsp freshly ground flaxseeds
1 tbsp chia seeds
1/2 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
1/2 cup cold water
4-5 pcs. ice cubes (optional)

If you’re beginning a fat-loss diet, your need for protein only intensifies as you cut out high-carb goodies like bread, pasta and rice. Especially if you find that you don’t eat a lot of meat, dairy or fish, protein powder will make a noticeable difference. So using a fast-absorbing whey protein powder before and after you hit the gym will really pump up your results. A pre-workout protein shake will prepare your muscles for what’s to come while the post-workout shake will top off the amino acid stores to ensure help facilitate the repair process takes place.

Use only freshly ground flaxeeds for your protein shakes. Grind only what you need. Relish the freshness (whole flaxseeds are very hard and will pass through your body undigested if you don’t grind them. A coffee grinder or small food processor does a fabulous job of “freeing” the nutrients of your flax so that you can absorb them.) I have two coffee grinders at home since flaxeeds are part of my family’s diet. If you have only one coffee grinder be sure to clean it thoroughly before and after use.

Easy peasy:

Step 1: Dump all the ingredients in the blender.

Tip: Jiggle the pitcher to pre-mix the ingredients. This will prevent the powder and ground flaxeeds from getting stuck in the bottom and going all over the pitcher when you pulse the blender.

Step 2: Blend all ingredients together until you achieve the desired consistency.

Step 3: Serve with a smile. 🙂

I’m traveling this week to a country where the food is going to be major. I’m hoping that I can still exercise in my hotel room and eat mindfully. Pray for me?

  1. Hi Ms.Jenni, I’m just curious. Is it advisable to consume whey protein if I’m not working out regularly? Would love to hear your views. Thanks!

      Hi Yosh,

Yes! I actually included protein powder to my diet as a protein supplement since I’m eating less calories and meat.

      Best,
      Jenni
