According to Howard Gardner, Hobbs professor of education and cognition at the Harvard Graduate School of Education believes that intelligence is more complex than we think. “It was generally believed that intelligence was a single entity that was inherited, and that human beings – initially a blank state – could be trained to learn anything, provided that it was presented in an appropriate way,” said Gardner in his landmark work Frames of Mind, The Theory of Multiple Intelligences. “Nowadays, an increasing number of researchers believe precisely the opposite; that there exists a multitude of intelligences, quite independent of each other, that each intelligence has its own strengths and constraints…”
I embrace the multiple-intelligence approach in nurturing my children. I also believe that most moms choose to build a generation of kids with Multiple Intelligence—raising up kids that are Brain Smart, Body Smart and People Smart.
To help boost my kids’ intelligence I expose them to different physical and cultural activities, encourage them to read and help develop good study habits.
As a parent, my challenge is also to help them apply their knowledge to everyday life. Not just by getting good grades but by being well-rounded individuals that are smart, creative and helpful.
Gardner’s theory eventually gave rise to what is known as multiple intelligence – simply put it is brain smart, body smart and people smart. The theory questions the idea that intelligence is a single entity, that it results from a single factor and that it can be measured simply via IQ tests.
Progress Pre-School GOLD support the development of children’s multiple intelligence. Progress Pre-School GOLD is now with its best-ever GOLD Biofactors System with higher levels of DHA, Choline and Lutein to support a child’s multiple intelligence.
For my husband and me, it’s not about having the “perfect” children, but loving and caring for the ones that we have. To be genuinely interested in who they are and not what we want them to be. Motivating and supporting them to be the best version of themselves because each child is special in their own way.
