Media Room Inspirations

The term media room has evolved into a generic definition for a multipurpose space that is outfitted with a large flat-screen television, surround sound and cozy seating. Friends congregate there to watch the big game or for an awards night viewing. Families go there to watch a movie together. It’s party central when guests visit.

The way our family room is currently set-up, it’s technically a media room because the seats are strategically arranged to face the television. We haven’t upgraded our TV and sound system for years and it’s about time we create a cozy and theater-like experience in our media room since we’re all movie and music buffs.

Here are some of my inspos:

Large and lounge-y. Tom and I are convinced that we need a huge (but slim) television for the media room. The screen should be large enough so everyone in the room can back up and view it from a good angle. The goal is to create a cinema-like experience in the comforts of our home.

Modern glam. I love adding a little bling to a room. Light fixtures and a big LED TV should do the trick!

Seamless sound and style. The reason why Tom and I want to upgrade our TV and speakers is to bring a theater-like experience (big screen and chest-thumping bass) at home while creating a modern and cohesive look in our space. No bulky sound system allowed.

Bringing the outdoor in. I love house plants! I need them for the media room.

High-tech yet cozy. I want the best TV and speakers and the comfiest seats ever!

Sleek and clutter-free. I love the idea of wall-mounted TV (I hope this is doable in our room).

Let there be light. Proper lighting is key for TV and movie watching.

Technology meets art. The TV and speakers should look like pieces of art.

Make it fun! What’s a movie night at home without treats? A snack bar is a must in the media room!

For me, a media room is real life. It is a social experience—you’re watching your favorite show, chatting, playing with the kids — and that’s OK (no one gets shushed, haha) but at the same time, style and comfort shouldn’t be sacrificed.

What would be your dream media room? Please share with me in the comments box. 🙂

  1. Hi Jenni, I admire that you and Tom have budgeted your house revamp by doing it room by room! Would you by any chance be able to write about items, furniture or appliances that young couples should prioritize?
