“JaPinoy” Cuisine

Q. What happens when you combine Pinoy food + Japanese food?

A. Manila Maki

Manila Maki is the newest restaurant nestled in Salcedo Village, Makati. It serves Filipino Japanese fusion cuisine.

Aryanna and I spotted this hole in the wall resto while on our mom and daughter bonding time a week before Holy Week.

The curious cats

Aryanna: Ooh… cute logo! Let’s try it, mom!

Me: Cute lang ng logo try na agad? Over… Ooh… I like the wallpaper! Let’s eat!

My lunch date

Aryanna ordered Milk Green Tea with pearls while I had sake

The interior:

Manila Maki’s interior is funky and cozy. I like the use of Japanese newspapers as wallpaper.

What is “JaPinoy” cuisine?

Imagine a crunchy tuna maki with “taba ng talangka” on top or a not-so-classic Philadelphia Roll using kesong puti, bacon bits, and fresh salmon. Their signature “Manila Maki”, which had fresh tuna, nilasing na hipon, and crunchy garlic. That’s “JaPinoy”!

My favorite: Seared Tuna Kinilaw

I give this two legs up! Saraaap!

Seared yellow fin tuna encrusted with white and black sesame seeds, topped with mixed peppers, and served with a spicy garlic vinegar. Mmm…

Must-try: their signature “Manila Maki”

nilasing na hipon, fresh Philippine mango, and kani salad rolled in garlic sushi rice, topped with fresh slices of tuna, drizzled with mango dressing

Ebi tempura

We ordered the 3-pc. shrimp tempura

Teppanyaki Salpicao

Garlic-y salty goodness! You can’t eat this without rice. Haaay!

The rice

Aligue Chahan. Talo-talo na ‘to!

Pinoydon Fried Chicken

Crispylicious fried chicken fillet served with gravy. Parang popcorn ko lang itong kinain! LOL

Aryanna’s favorite: Pork Katsu with Gravy

Pork cutlet with Japanese bread crumbs topped with mushroom gravy and served with a side salad.

Sa dami ng inorder namin, ang lakas ng loob na umorder pa ng dessert!

Banana Surprise

For sharing. Banana fritter topped with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, and chocolate syrup

Welcome Manila Maki to our Salcedo Village neighborhood!

Buti na lang maaraw sa table namin, kaya pasok si Tom Ford giant shades sa banga! Hahaha!

You don’t have to live in Salcedo Village to experience the goodness of Manila Maki because they deliver. Can I hear a “bongga”? Bongga!

You know you love it:

•Anyone who is adventurous enough to try something new and exciting.

•Price points are affordable. A meal with sushi, main course, drinks and dessert would cost around P300 to P400 per person, depending on what you order.

•Guests can share meals.

•Individual rice bowls start at P185 only.

•Cocktail hour is available too. Kampai! *hik

Aryanna and I have been to Manila Maki four times already in the last few weeks. We recommend to also try the following:

Pinoydon Maki – we love the adobo and cream cheese combo. Eto yung kanin and ulam na bite-size. Portion control ang peg!

Tuna Maki Crunch – shrimp tempura, kani salad and mango rolled panko-crusted sushi rice, topped with spicy tuna salad. This dish is value for your money! Two in one naman ang peg: Tempura roll + Spicy tuna salad

Beef Yakiniku – thin slices of beef marinated in Pinoy spices and Japanese sauce served with crunchy veggies. Yum!

Please support Manila Maki. Aryanna and I want them to open five more branches so everyone can taste their innovative dishes!
