My Valentine’s Day was a major surprise this year. What I thought was going to be our usual couple’s massage and steak dinner date turned out to be the one most romantic moments I’ve had with my husband Tom.
Wait, I’m getting ahead of myself here. Here’s how it all panned out:
Tom and I share simple acts of love everyday. We do loving things for each other every chance we get. So when it comes to Valentine’s Day, we go for gold. It’s full-on romance, 24/7!

Love in the morning. We are creatures of habit so, every V-Day starts with a candlelit breakfast at one of our favorite brunch joints.

I love me. Valentine’s Day is about celebrating love. This year, I’m loving myself more. I believe that self-love (not in a selfish and narcissistic way) is important because we cannot give to someone else what we don’t have and likewise we cannot get from someone else what he or she doesn’t have. Self-love starts by giving love, attention and care to ourselves.
On that note, I ran and exercised at the park to be healthy. Hopefully by doing so, I may live a long and healthy life with my loved ones.

Marshmallow massages. Tom and I love getting couple’s massages. It’s one to two hours of pure relaxation away from work, the noise of the city and all our responsibilities. We do things everyday for everyone (our kids and our clients) so having other people pamper us is pure joy.
Special thanks to Manila Marriott Hotel’s Marketing Communications Manager, Mitch Garcia for the last minute booking at the serene Quan Spa Manila. Quan spa is known for their indigenous Filipino treatments. We like their Signature massages: Hilot, Banos, Dagdagay and an array of sublime body treatments that make use of fresh local produce allow you to experience the best of Filipino health and beauty rituals in a luxurious and contemporary setting.
In our opinion, they also have the best spa music in the metro. Go for sitar sounds.

Beer & Bellini. After our massage, Tom decided that we should have cocktails at the lobby just to chill. This is the first time we’ve had cocktails by ourselves at Marriott Manila’s Lounge. Some of my Twitter followers even spotted us and mentioned us on Twitter. Lav et! KKLK! LOL

Roof deck romance. Tom told me that he booked a table for us in one of the restaurants near our place that we haven’t been to. Little did I know, he organized a surprise dinner prepared by a chef on the roof deck of our condo. I had no idea! It was one of the most memorable and romantic thing he’s ever done for me to date! Needless to say, I was floored! Haba ng hair ko!

Let’s take it slow. Tom and I slow dance at home. Whenever we hear a song we love, he would randomly take my hand and we’d dance to it. It might be cheese-y for some but I get kilig every time!
Our kids love watching us slow dance. For our roof deck romance, our daughter Aryanna was in cahoots with Tom in preparing my Valentine’s Day surprise. She also took photos of our date. Yes, this is life with kids. Lagi silang naka-singit! The photo of us dancing is my favorite. This really encapsulated how we felt that night. Happy to be in love!
It’s true what they say, the most unexpected moments are truly the most memorable ones. Thank you, Tom for surprising me with life’s greatest gift: true love!
