How To Set-Up Your Own Satellite Soup Kitchen

jenniLifestyle 5 Comments

My family and I love to cook. One of my goals in life is to set-up a soup kitchen where my family and I can feed the hungry: a place where the homeless, especially children and old people, are fed for free so that they don’t have to dig out food from garbage or beg to eat or get “high” on rugby to forget the painful hunger. One of these days I will have my own meal center.

While I’m working on my full blown soup kitchen, I already started my satellite soup kitchen a few years back during typhoon Ondoy. Since then, our small kitchen at Maison Epperson has been big on donating cooked food for relief centers. I can’t tell you how happy and grateful my whole family is for having the opportunity to help those in need.

What is a soup kitchen?

It’s a center or food kitchen where meals are offered for the hungry.

What is a satellite soup kitchen?

My version of a satellite soup kitchen is your own kitchen where you or your whole family and friends cook and prepare meals to donate to those in need.

How to set-up your own satellite soup kitchen:

I believe that charity starts at home. Sometimes, the smallest gestures, like helping your household help’s families or even friends who are victims of flooding, make the biggest impact.

What you need: A working kitchen, some stocks in the pantry and help from family.

What to cook: Quick to cook, easy to eat & filling meals

Pack it good: One of the roots of flooding is blocked drainage caused by discarded plastic bags. Be responsible and pack meals in eco-friendly containers.

Used cut cloth or old rags to pack canned goods for donation.

Busy schedules don’t mean we have to write off community involvement. In less than thirty minutes, anyone can make a difference in the community. In fact, last night, after I tweeted that my kitchen is open to donate cooked food, friends immediately responded and I cooked and mobilized meals in less than thirty minutes!

Shoppingero/shoppingera, get involved in your community!
