Hong Kong Food Trip

Cafe Landmark, The Landmark, 16 Des Voeux Road Central, Central

Whenever Tom and I travel to Hong Kong, I always drag him to Cafe Landmark. It’s usually our first stop.

The cafe is located in an open area on the first floor of The Landmark. The restaurant is popular with shoppers and office workers taking a break who want a convenient place to eat at.

I always order the same dish: their signature Lobster Linguine. It’s my ultimate favorite!

A generous portion of lobster in its shell. The pasta is lightly flavored with minimal sauce ensuring that the lobster is the dominant flavor. Soooo delicious! Perfect with a glass of Berger Baron Blanc.

Tom rocks for lining up to get us a table while I scout the boutiques, haha!

No need to reserve a table at Cafe Landmark, the line moves fast and service is quick too. Although, it is not a place for a lingering meal, the staff is keen on getting your last order and bringing you the bill.

Shiro, Great Food Hall, Level 1, Pacific Place, 88 Queensway, Admiralty

Hong Kong is all about shopping and eating. I’m always on the lookout for good restaurants that are conveniently located inside the malls. I’m always craving for Japanese food and I get a quick fix at Shiro.

You have a choice of sitting at the bar with the food on a conveyor belt (you pick your dishes yourself as the pass by your seat) or at a table. Personally, I like sitting at the bar.

My favorite dishes are the Soft Shell Crab Tempura, Seared Scallops with Cod Roe Sushi and their ramen.

I have to admit that I find this place a bit overpriced but I like the food and the convenience of the location.

Grappa’s Ristorante, 132 Pacific Place, 88 Queensway, Admiralty

They serve Italian food and have a wide selection of wines. We’ve never eaten here; we usually just have wine or coffee.

This restaurant is what keeps Tom sane while I’m “malling”, hehe.

Din Tai Fung, No. 8 Yee Wo Street, Causeway Bay

Tom and I have been wanting to try the famous Din Tai Fung for the longest time but never got around to it till now. Thanks to our friends Joey and Tinette Puyat, they got us a table!

Joey (businessman and Tom’s Blue Rats band mate. He is also one of the Philippines’ best guitarist) and Tinette (owner of Tinette & Co. Salon and has been successfully in business for almost 20 years!) were on the same flight as ours. They celebrated their 14-year anniversary in Hong Kong and invited us to join them for dinner. They are one of the coolest couples in our book. We love these guys!

Happy Anniversary Joey and Tinette!

For dinner, Joey and Tinette ordered Drunken Chicken, Sauteed Pea Shoots, Noodle with Spicy Sesame and Peanut Sauce, Xiao Long Bao, Shrimp Steamed Dumplings, Egg-fried rice with Deep-fried Pork Chop.

In my opinion, Din Tai Fung serves the best Xio Long Bao. I like the flavor of the meat and soup in the dumpling.

This Michelin Star restaurant is a must-visit! They serve excellent dumplings, the food is good, good value and service is fast. Even though there is usually a long queue where waiting time is around 20-30 minutes, it is definitely worth the wait.

Tip: View the menu and fill in your order form while waiting in line.

Din Tai Fung is an award-winning restaurant with dumplings that are Michelin star in taste, not in price.

Koi Kei Bakery, Shop A1, 1 Pak Sha Road, Causeway Bay

Joey and Tinette are Hong Kong “experts.” According to Tinette, it’s Joey’s favorite city. We’re glad they invited us after dinner to bring us to Joey’s favorite bakery.

Koi Kei Bakery is a Hong Kong pastry and specialty shop which is actually from Macau. Their famous pastries are the Peanut Brittle Candies, Panda Cookies, Pork Jerky, Egg Rolls, Pork Floss, Almond Cakes and more.

Joey recommended the Almond Cookies but I got the mini version. I also got some Walnut Cookies (good for tea time) and White Sesame Peanut Candies.

I love these guys because they’re so not shy! Always camera-ready! Haha!
