One of my favorite things about summer is school break because I get to spend more time with my children. It also means planning fun activities, staycations and making sure lounging at home is comfortable, especially with the mala-impiyernong (infernal) heat in the city!

5. The Flaneur: A Stroll Through the Paradoxes of Paris By Edmund White, available at Amazon.com
I read this book when it first came out in 2008 and I loved it! I’m reading it again and it’s one of those books that never gets old. It’s the perfect summer read.
A flaneur is a stroller, a loiterer, someone who ambles without apparent purpose but is secretly attuned to the history of the streets he walks – and is in covert search of adventure, aesthetic or erotic. Acclaimed writer Edmund White, who lived in Paris for sixteen years, wanders through the avenues and along the quays, into parts of the city virtually unknown to visitors and indeed to many locals, luring the reader into the fascinating and seductive backstreets of his personal Paris.
