After experiencing a brutal summer in the city, I am welcoming with open arms and legs, haha the rainy and cool season in Manila. It’s also that time of the year when our tropical attires need a bit of updating.
One of the best things about losing weight (from dress size large to SMALL! Ermayghaad!!) for me is building an entire new wardrobe. Like what I mentioned before, I don’t want to buy clothes mindlessly and go crazy on shopping to avoid bankrupt—haha! Seriously speaking, no matter what dress size you’re in right now, updating your wardrobe and resisting the urge to buy trendy pieces can boost your confidence and save cash at the same time.
Here are some timeless transitional pieces worth buying:
1. Jewel-Tone Blouses & Bow Shirts
You can still wear tunic tops and bow blouses which were big during summer but this time, avoid pastels and shop for decadent colors. Since black is the default color for Fall (and everyone will probably be buying dark pieces) opt for rich and deep colors! Go for emerald, mustard, burgundy and other jewel-tone hues.
Add to cart:
• silk blouses
• colorful tunic tops
• cotton tops
• bow details
2. Sexy Skirts
Give your jeans and shorts a break and try on skirts! Slip on a style that’s flattering on you.
Add to cart:
• A-line denim skirts
• maxi skirts with slits
• jewel-tone or metallic micro-pleated skirts
3. Party Dresses
Get ready as early as now for events and parties for the holidays! Stock up on easy and elegant cocktail dresses and evening wear.
Add to cart:
• velvet slip dress
• LBD (little black dress) with flouncy sleeves
• Shimmery long gown
4. Dark Denim & Tattered Jeans
If you can’t live without wearing jeans, at least get new pairs in darker indigo colors and some tattered relaxed fit jeans to balance out glittery and metallic tops.
Add to cart:
• indigo, boot-cut jeans
• tattered denim
• black jeans
5. Cool & Comfy Shoes
The easiest way to revamp your classic attires is by changing shoes. Low-heeled and high-impact style will do the trick!
Add to cart:
• gold shoes
• block-heel pumps
• low-heel booties
6. Throw-On-The-Go Tees
The t-shirt has come a long way from being a casual, everyday piece to wearing it under an evening dress. Buy silky, glittery and long-back tees!
Add to cart:
• silk or sateen fabric
• metallic or shimmery t-shirts
• long-back
7. Blazers & Bomber Jackets
The cooler season demands a jacket. Get yourself a well-fitted blazer or a cool bomber jacket that’s more of a pilot’s jacket style than a varsity bomber for a refined look.
Add to cart:
• pilot’s jacket
• navy blazer
• long jacket
If you live in Manila or other tropical countries, resist the urge to buy thick fabrics from the Fall/Winter collection because it way too hot (even during the cooler months) to wear them. Focus on “Fall” colors and cuts to create a well-curated, practical and stylish wardrobe. And if you live somewhere cold consider yourself freakin’ lucky and shop at will!
Stay cool.
