I’m lucky that I have a teenage daughter who’s into skin and hair care. Aryanna also loves beauty and hair products. In fact, when I get packages and gifts at home, she usually gets first dibs on the makeup, shampoo, soaps, etc. She’s on top of the latest (she just told me that Sephora.PH just launched!) and has a knack for putting on makeup. I think it’s the painter in her that makes putting on rouge interesting. What I love most is her minimalist beauty mantra: “no makeup” make up look. According to her, it’s all about highlights, just like when painting.
For me, it’s all about anti-aging skin and hair care products these days. Moisturize! Moisturize! Moisturize!!!
I invest time and money when it comes to my skin and hair so that I would age gracefully. And since Aryanna and I bond over makeup and spa-at-home, I’ve been more interested in beauty trends. I’m enjoying my new discoveries and trying new products!
Here are some beauty & skin care products that I’ve tried and I super recommend:
Gel Nail Polish
I first tried the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Nail Polish last December and the result was truly a miracle—the only true 2-step gel manicure with no UV/LED light needed. Thanks to the patented & exclusive gel color system using natural-light-curing technology mani/pedi is a breeze. It dries like regular nail polish (I think even quicker)! It also doesn’t need a base coat (big savings on time and money) just use the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Top Coat over the Miracle Gel Nail Polish and you’re done. I super love the high-gloss finish and the colors wow! Best part? Easy, soak free removal.
Scented Lotion
Medicated, unscented lotions are great but so geriatric—haha! I use them often because I have extra dry skin but I also love lathering on scented lotions especially at night when I’m sleeping next to Tom. Bawal ang “amoy matanda” (sorry, but you know what I mean!!)
I super love L’Occitane Cherry Blossom Folie Florale Petal-Soft Body Milk. It has a fragrance that is distinct to Provence but not overpowering since it’s diluted in the lotion. I’m obsessed with the fragrance! I keep smelling my arms and hands!
The Body Milk is enriched with shea butter and cherry extract from Luberon in Provence. This particular lotion is without the harsh ingredients like parabens, sulfates and phthalates which make it healthy for the skin. Best part? It has a shimmery finish that leaves my body glowing. Vaguettes!
Daily UV + Anti-Pollution Sunscreen
“Anti-pollution” is the beauty buzzword in 2016. I’m totally for it since I live in Makati City, which is one of the most polluted cities—so gross. I literally feel the grime on my skin even if I’m inside the house. The dirt and soot from the pollution seeps through the house and into my skin. I know this because whenever I clean my face, I see super black dirt on the cotton pads. Ugh. Again, gross!!! Anyway, even if there are no anti-pollution ingredients per se and since politicians don’t care about taking steps in solving the pollution and saving our lives, the fact that I have a product that acts as a barrier on my skin, I have some sort peace of mind.
I super duper love NUXE White Daily UV Protector SPF30 / PA+++. It’s a watery sunscreen protection to inhibit the formation of melanin and neutralize free radical.
To use: Shake well before use. Apply evenly on skin 30 minutes before exposing to the sun. Can be used as makeup base.
Korean Mask Sheets
I read somewhere that mask sheets are the next generation Korean cult skin care trend. Aryanna introduced me to Etude House’s I Need You Collagen mask sheet a few months ago and I’ve been hooked since! I put on the sheet mask twice a week.
If you’re following me on Snapchat, you’ve seen me a couple of times wearing the mask sheet while blogging—this is real life!
Direction:
1. Apply toner to skin after cleansing.
2. Remove mask from pouch and apply to face, placing mask to fit eye and lip area.
3. Remove mask after 10~15 minutes and lightly massage remaining solution into skin with hands. No need to wash your face after. Best to use it before sleeping.
It’s never too early or too late to start investing in your skin!
